Van Straten Medical, a family owned company, has been founded by Jaap van Straten in 1975 in the Netherlands and was the first company to introduce the completely closed wound drainage systems with a constant vacuum. Nowadays, Van Straten Medical is globally active with a broad product portfolio in more than 35 countries. The company has 5 divisions (Orthopedics, OR supplies/Endoscopy, Oral Implantology, Export and Research & Development) and various subsidiairies as well as ownership in a production facility, named Medinorm, in Germany.
1975
Founded by Jaap van Straten and offers the first completely closed wound drainage systems with a constant vacuum. Furthermore, Van Straten Medical starts with the distribution of medical instruments as well as Zimmer orthopedic hip and knee implants.
1980
Van Straten Medical introduces the first dental implants (Tübinger & IMZ) in The Netherlands in the beginning of the 80’s.
In the early 1980s, Van Straten Medical the export starts to various countries worldwide.
1984
The production facility Medinorm Medizintechnik was founded in 1984 as a subsidiary for the production of wound drainage systems.
Van Straten Medical starts representing DePuy orthopedics with its LCS knee and helps founding the Amsterdam LCS Learning Centre for global education.
1990
In 1990 Medinorm becomes world leader in constant vacuum with the green coloured wound drainage systems. Over a million systems are distributed each year through the logistical warehousing of Van Straten Medical in Nieuwegein (used in more than 35 countries).
The organization establishes 5 divisions: Oral Implantology, OR Supplies/Endoscopy, Orthopedics, Export and Research & Development.
The ACCIS, Advanced Ceramic Coated Implant System, is developed and patented in the early 90s. The patent protects all orthopedic prostheses coated
with a ceramic surface articulating against other ceramic coated surfaces. Additional orthopedic implants developed after this period are promoted under the philosophy named the ‘Ceramic Solution’. Implantcast, Germany is selected as the partner for the manufacturing of the impants of the Ceramic Solution.
1992
Cemex Medical is founded in 1992 as a subsidiary of Van Straten Medical. Cemex Medical concentrates on ‘comfort & health’ as well as on a disposable product line. Cemex is exporting medical examination gloves, protection aids and disposables for the catering industry to over 12 countries.
2000-2003
Van Straten Medical develops the DONOR Autologous Blood Reinfusion System with Medinorm and Pall Medical as co-developers. The CCI Total Knee System is succesfully introduced world wide. LVS Next Generation (NG), a range of low vacuum wound drainage products with a constant low vacuum, optional with a silicone drain, is developed in 2003.
2004
In addition to the conventional ACCIS implants, the ACCIS Resurfacing hip implant is introduced to be the first and only ceramic coated metal to metal resurfacing hip system. The ACCIS resurfacing head & conventional ACCIS head both fit in the same ACCIS acetabular cup (cemented or uncemented). In March, 2004 Van Straten Medical United Kingdom is founded and serves the UK market with the CCI knee system, ACCIS conventional and resurfacing hip system, saw blades, conventional hip stems and DONOR reinfusion.
