Surgical Technique

The CCI Evolution has specifically been designed to achieve proper allignment of the ankle prosthesis and to minimize bone resection.

  • Talus first preparation. The final tibia preparation will be made after the talus resection has been finished. This will allow a central rotation of the tibia over the talus.
  • With the trial bearings, it is easy to check the allignment with the second metatarsal bone.
  • Thus, a well alligned ankle prosthesis can be achieved.
  • The tibial component basically requires a minimum of 2.8 mm resection of the distal tibia.
  • The tibial slot is easily prepared for the fixation of one central fin. No stems or cylinders are needed.
  • The talar component, with its triple V design, will smoothly follow the anatomical shape of the talus, necessitating as little resection as possible.
  • Thus, minimal bone resection of both tibia and talus is achieved.

The CCI Evolution Set of Instruments 2.0

The instruments are straightforward and easy to use for both the surgeon and scrub nurse.

So, a simple but adequate set of instruments.

  • Two basic instrument sets & one tray

In February of 2010, a new generation of instruments have been introduced. These new and modified instruments should lead to a faster and more controlled preparation of both the tibia and talus.

The 2nd generation of instruments are referred to as Instruments 2.0, indicating that newer versions or upgrades will be developed in the future.
