A literature study has been conducted in order to review the proper wound drainage systems, the principles of vacuum, the influences of vacuum, the vacuum levels itself and to find the application of drainage systems in various surgeries.
In addition, several studies investigated that constant suction provides optimal wound healing. Continuous vacuum system was found to provide significantly better wound approximation than intermittent suction devices.
The literature study is outlined in 2 scientific reviews:
- Scientific Review: Postoperative wound drainage methods
- Scientific Review: Surgical recommendations for the use of postoperative wound drainage systems
